JOIN US AT THE AREA 51 COSTUME CONTEST a fun festival event for all ages and pets! Participate in plenty of Activities at the Spruce Pine Alien Festival! Dress like your favorite Alien, Monster or TV Character and win prize Money.
Enjoy a fun filled day shopping for unique Alien Merchandise and local Arts & Crafts. Be sure to bring a lawn chair and pull up your spot in front of the Milk way stage and listen to all the Free Music with headliner band Grey Stoke!
The Alien Festival activities also include an interactive younger Children’s Space area located in the town’s central park grass area on locust street (lower street).
Visit the Alien fun zone where Children of all ages will have a fantastic day in the festival. Tickets are available for zero gravity Bounce Houses and Galactic Giant Slides located at the Close Encounter zone in the Festival on Oak Avenue! Have a Blast meeting the Alien Speakers and taking family photos at our Area 51 Space Backdrops. Protect Spruce pine and play laser in a giant Predator Spaceship

“The Alien Festival Encounter Zone will be open all day for children of all ages to enjoy bounce houses, train rides, carnival games and concessions! Tickets Available all day at the entrance of the Close Encounter Zone at the FunTime Inflatables sales tent.
Ticket Pricing:
1 ticket – $1
6 tickets – $5
12 tickets – $10
25 tickets – $20
Inflatables vary from 2-3 tickets per inflatable.
Train Tickets: only (5) tickets per person
Purchase a ticket to ride the Alien Train and tour through the whole Alien Festival.
Tickets and wristbands will be sold all day at the entrance of the Close Encounter Zone at the Fun Time Inflatables tent.
The Alien Encounter Zone is in the Howell Spark’s Realty parking lot on the corner of Walnut and Oak Avenue near the Main Stage.

Welcome to the Arthur Planetarium!
The Glenn and Carol Arthur Planetarium, located at the Earth to Sky Park in Burnsville, NC, will now wow audiences with traditional astronomy shows to other STEM education shows all underneath a 36 ft projection dome. Comprised of 60 seats beneath the dome, the planetarium is a multi-use destination for visitors, residents, school children, and Mayland students.
The Arthur Planetarium is handicap and wheelchair accessible.
Join us for an evening of stargazing as you’ve never seen before! Depending on the time of year and the moon phase, visitors will be able to view the moon, planets, and stars through our 34″ diameter mirror on our custom-built Newtonian telescope, as well as our smaller 14″ mirror Meade planetary telescope. With the assistance of our two observatory Managers, visitors will spend two hours viewing and learning about the night sky.
SAM SCOPE
Named the “Sam Scope” in memory of Samuel Phillips, the telescope is an f/3.6 Star Structure Newtonian telescope, with a 34 inch (0.86 meters) mirror. It is the largest telescope in the Southeast US dedicated to public use.
The Samuel L. Phillips Family Foundation, a local nonprofit organization, provided funding for the fabrication of the telescope. Enjoy this magical celestial journey to the stars!
